About the Area - Shellharbour

Shellharbour is a City of about 65,000 people and is located on the Illawarra coastline of New South Wales, some 100km south of Sydney, Australia.

The Shellharbour Local Government Area was formed in 1859. It achieved City status some 136 years later, on 1 January, 1996.

The city’s 154 square kilometres span an area of great natural beauty, stretching west from the picturesque coastline to rolling pastures, against the majestic backdrop of the Illawarra escarpment.

Shellharbour City is recognised as a major regional growth centre for the next two decades and is a vibrant centre for residential and commercial development. The population of Shellharbour will continue to grow rapidly as it is one of the only areas on the coastal plain with room to expand. Commercial and industrial development has boomed over the past decade and will continue as investors realise the benefits of competitively priced industrial land and a skilled and growing work force.
